In the heart of Sassi

Just one tip: travel light! My b&b is in a strategic position: just next to the city center where you’ll find all the services you need and at the same time immersed in the heart of Sassi. Read well those directions, it’s easy to get lost in the Sassi but this wont happen if you let locals help you. Walking, bycicle, train, bus, hitchiking or flight, this is the way to get to my place in the Sassi:

– Get to Piazza Sedile just walking;
– Beside Palazzo del Sedile you’ll find an arch and stairs going down, where via Gradoni Municipio starts (the name is written on the arch);
– Go down through the arch and you’ll find me at the 67° stair, the house number is 14.

How to get to Matera

By car

You can park for free in Via Lanera or Via Castello, pay attention to the street signs – parking denied or reserved for residents.
In Via Pasquale Vena you’ll find a covered parking, it costs 50 cents per hour. In Piazza Mulino there’s a guarded parking, it costs 1 euro per hour.

Car Pooling

If you come by car or you’re looking for a lift check the Blablacar website. We encourage the private car sharing, it’s more fun and green.

From Milan check “Autolinee Marino”. From Rome check “Autolinee Marozzi” and “Autolinee Liscio”. From Neaples check “Autolinee Marino” and “Autolinee Miccolis”. You can also check Flixbus, the bus that connects the whole Europe. The coaches stop in via Don Luigi Sturzo or Stazione Villa Longo, in both cases you can reach via Nazionale and take the bus 1, 2 or 6, direction city center, get off in via lucana at the crossroad between via Lanera and Via Lucana.

By train

Trenitalia stations from Rome: Matera – Ferrandina scalo-Matera | Trenitalia station from Milan: Bari. Here you’ll find many routes “Ferrovie appulo lucane” going to Matera. In Altamura the train will separate and only one couch will lead to Matera, pay attention to be on this couch or follow the instruction of the train conductor. On non-working days it’s not always easy to reach Bari train station, please check FAL or Flixbus website before booking your train or flight.

By Flight

Bari Palese is the closest airport, there are many shuttle buses from the airport to Matera, check the website Pugliairbus or Miccolis or you might take the Fal trains or flixbus buses from Bari central station. You can also consider Brindisi airport.
